Places that are dirtier than the toilet
Updated | By East Coast Radio
This will literally push you to clean more often...or at the very least be more inclusive in your cleaning...
There is this immediate association with toilets being unclean. And for the most part, we don't disagree.
Toilets are a hot topic, and the cleanliness surrounding your toilet definitely says something about you as a person.
The thing is that they are not the dirtiest place in your house, as you may assume.
According to the "U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), more than more than 200,000 species of insects, bacteria and fungi live in our homes." (MSN)
Almost makes you want to live outside after hearing those numbers. But that's not the worst part.
Things like spice jars, kettle handles, kitchen faucets, sinks and can openers are actually dirtier than we think.
Not to mention makeup applicators. "Bristles of makeup brushes can be really full of germs and bacteria, especially if you are in the habit of taking them with you out of the house often." (MSN)
Not the most ideal thing to hear but remote controls are enormous germ carriers.
"In a 2020 study, it was shown that TV remotes were 20 times dirtier than the toilet seat, harboring large colonies of mold, bacteria and yeast." (MSN)
Even worse are hotel remotes, which are said to harbour things like urine, semen or feces.

Sponges are another thing that are often overlooked. It is quite ironic because we forget that cleaning materials can also be the root of germs.
They are riddled with mold, germs and bacteria and should ideally be switched out every two weeks.
And it isn't old news to us, but your cellphone also is a huge germ carrier. What's hectic is that you leave your phone in some unlikely places, and some people even take it along for a toilet visit.
It's one thing to take them with you to the toilet but then not cleaning them is another thing.
