Man runs out of countries to visit so creates his own
Creating a new country? Sounds like something we could get behind...
As you may know, we're avid travellers and one of the best things about being a traveller is the many, many places we want to visit.
In between work and life, we have to allocate times to travel, and cannot just travel all the time. Although that would be the dream.
We don't know how he did it, but one man, Randy Williams, known as a late-night slow jams DJ in San Diego, the Sultan of Slowjamastan, has managed to travel around the world.
With the exception of a UN-recognised nation that he has yet to visit.
Since he ran out of countries to visit, he has a bizarre, yet eye-catching idea.
"He decided to buy an 11.07-acre plot of empty arid land in the California desert to build a new “country” named after his radio show. Wearing his best suit and sunglasses, the sultan of Slowjamastan officially declared independence from the United States of America at 12:26 p.m. on December 1, 2021 as he broadcast the secession live from his open-air government “office” in Dublândia, the capital of the Republic of Slowjamastan." "It issues its own passports, flies its own flag, prints its own currency (“the duble”), and has a national anthem that’s played on state occasions." (CNN)
Move aside Elon Musk, Williams is said to have over 500 registered citizens, with 4,500 waiting in line for their citizenship.

Williams admits that his country runs as a dictatorship, but he has allowed citizens to vote.
"I allowed citizens to vote on what should be our national fruit, sport, and even what our national animal should be named."
"He hires “border guards” and surrounds himself with “security” when he hosts events in the Republic of Slowjamastan and enforces a list of prohibitions that all citizens and visitors have to follow in order to avoid “banishment.” Currently, these prohibitions include “Crocs,” “mumble rap” and “people who put their feet on the dashboard.” (CNN)
