Would you break the law for some donuts?
Updated | By Stacey and JSbu
This is probably one of the most ironic things to ever happen - a policeman breaking the law to score some donuts!
A police officer from Cambridgeshire Police is reportedly now facing dismissal after the accused was busted trying to buy a box of doughnuts costing £9.95 ( R203.06) for just 7p (R142.85).
Apparently he swapped the barcode by sticking the price ticket for some carrots on the box of donuts and went on to attempt to pay for them.
The officer on that day was clearly having a good day and decided to stop by a Tesco Extra while in his full uniform and pick up a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. He then apparently went over to the fruit and veg section and used a set of self-service scales to print a barcode sticker for carrots, costing 7p. An efficient man!
But he wasn't so clever when he decided to place the sticker on the box of sweet treats and attempted to pay for it at the self-checkout. This all happened in February 2020.
Unfortunately for him, he now stands accused of acting dishonestly and without integrity. Shocking!
The documents say that PC Read, the policeman in question, faces two charges:
Honesty & Integrity:
On February 10, 2020 you breached the Standard of Professional Behaviour concerning Honesty & Integrity because you acted dishonestly and without integrity by knowingly paying £0.07 for 12 donuts when you knew that you should have paid £9.95.- Laws broken
Discreditable Conduct:
Your behaviour on February 10, 2020 brings discredit upon the police service and undermines confidence in it because a reasonable member of the public, aware of all the facts, would be justifiably appalled that a police officer had acted dishonestly and without integrity.- Laws broken
The preliminary reports that were issued state that the alleged breach is 'so serious that dismissal would be justified'.
Oh the irony...
