Meet Zoe: The woman with the heart of gold from Bluff
Updated | By Nobuntu Swartbooi
When
Stacey and JSbu met Zoe Solomon, who runs The Bluff Loves Meals Feeding Scheme, the two knew right away that they had met a special lady.
It took three attempts to reach Zoe, who picked up her phone at the fourth attempt with a cautious, "Hello". Cautious perhaps because Stacey and JSbu had used a private number to contact her. As the team made it known to Zoe who they were, she revealed the real reason behind her apprehensive greeting.
"I am so sorry. I have been avoiding calls this whole weekend in fear of the overwhelming requests that I have been getting for food in the last three months," said Zoe.
“Due to the massive demand and lack of food security within our community, the Venerable Groups and Gender Committee has decided to launch the 'Meals on Wheels' scheme to meet this demand. The scheme aims to deliver hot meals to families 5 days a week with 1 additional weekend meal. This will ensure that a healthy balance of cooked meals are delivered to the most vulnerable people within our community.”
Like many NGO’s and feeding schemes, Zoe and The Bluff Loves Meals Feeding Scheme relies on corporates, businesses, and community volunteers to help in regard to financial assistance and food donations of perishable foods.
The Bluff Loves Meals Feeding Scheme has been running for some three years, but things are getting tougher and tougher during the pandemic.
