Times are tough, especially with the rise of petrol prices but this brother and sister duo risked all when they tried to stretch their petrol more than it could handle.

They took to Twitter to share their story....

This was definitely an "I told you so" moment for this brother and sister when Monique Mortlock told her brother that they weren't gonna make it but he still tried to chance it.

He shared us hilarious story with us. Click here to listen.

"The E on the petrol gage stands for enough but after the petrol increase, it's not enough anymore."

We completely relate to this with prices of petrol rising to what is rumoured to rise to R40 a lite.

How it all started is that Monique and her brother, Chris, were on their way home from work and the petrol light went on.

Chris knew the car so he thought that they would be able to make it but he was quickly humbled when they ended up on the side on the N1 seeking help from a friend to bring petrol.

We can definitely agree that this is an experience the Mortlock family will never forget.

The comment section was absolutely hilarious with so many users sharing similar experiences both as the driver and the scolding passenger.

The most hilarious thing about this story is not the light-hearted take this duo has but rather the fact that Chris was in shock over how a 5l tank of petrol came to a whooping R100.

Thank you to Chris and Monique for exclusively sharing this story with us.
