Jussie Smollett charges dropped in ‘hoax’ case
Updated | By Damon Beard
The Empire actor maintains his innocence after prosecutors
dropped the case.
Actor Jussie Smollett is a free man after prosecutors dropped 16 charges related to faking a hate crime.
The Empire star was believed to have faked an attack by two men in January of this year where he alleged he was poured with bleach and kicked repeatedly.
It is still unclear whether the Empire star is guilty or not because he won’t have his day in court and records of the case are sealed.
However, Smollett has forfeited his bail as well as served community service for the charges.
But the Mayor of Chicago doesn't believe he is innocent, saying that he was let off the charges because of his celebrity status.
"I am a man of faith, and I am a man that has knowledge of my history, and I would not bring my family, our lives, or the movement through a fire like this."
