R200 notes and no change: Why do ATMs keep giving us big buc
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
Do you still carry cash or have you gone fully digital? Before we test our money theory, vote in our poll!

We need to talk about something that’s been quietly frustrating many South Africans: Why do ATMs love handing out R200 notes?
There you are, withdrawing a quick R400... and boom! Two crispy R200 notes appear. What are you supposed to do with that? Buy a single tomato at the shop and wait while the cashier sighs, disappears to the back for change and glares at you like you’ve asked to pay in Bitcoin?
It’s not that we hate the R200. In fact, that glorious orange note is practically useless in many day-to-day situations.
Taxis? Don’t even think about it. Try handing a R200 note to a minibus driver and you’re either going to get a life lesson or be left behind.
In the meantime, we want to know where you stand: Do you still carry cash, or has everything gone digital for you? Vote in our poll below. Let’s settle this once and for all.
Stay tuned for our R200 taxi challenge; things might get awkward.
