Darren Maule's daughter asked the toughest question

"Sometimes my child asks me questions we should all be asking ourselves" - Darren Maule.

Impossible Darren Maule's Daughter

So, my daughter asked me this weekend about the history of the Olympic Games.

So I told her that almost 2800 years ago the Greeks set up the games for all the world as a celebration to the Olympian Gods.

The Mouse said: "...Gods? How many were there?"

Me: "Quite a few my love."

Mouse: "So, before you ran your race or threw your plates or jumped in the sandbox, who would they pray to?"

Me: "They prayed to whichever God they thought would favour them."

Mouse: "So... Who do athletes pray to today?"

Me: "They also pray to whichever God they believe in."

Mouse: "So what's the difference between then and now?"

This was a very good question and I had to think about it for a second and then it struck me.

Me: "The difference is, back then they accepted ALL the Gods - and today people only have time for their own."

Mouse: "So... It was better back then?"

Me: "I suppose so baby."

Mouse: "Is ballet an Olympic sport?"

Me: "No, but if you hold your breath and do it under water it is."

(I was tempted to say that if you do it on the back of a horse then they talk about you on the radio, but I bit my tongue.)
