Women's Day: Celebrating Carmen Reddy, a force in the media industry

Every year, on 9 August, South Africa comes together to celebrate Women's Day, commemorating women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements.
It's a day to reflect on the progress made, acknowledge the challenges that remain, and celebrate women's incredible contributions to society every day.

Celebrating women all over the country today, and we decided to celebrate one of our own, Carmen Reddy.
She is an experienced radio presenter with a demonstrated history of working in the broadcast media industry. She is skilled in report writing, TV News Production, presenting, radio broadcasting, and news writing.
Strong media and communication professional with a BA Honours focused in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria.
We asked the lovely Carmen to tell us all about herself and how she got in the game of radio.
We asked the East Coast Breakfast co-host a series of questions that will hopefully birth another talented broadcaster.

What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
I have always wanted to be in the media industry.
Is there a particular female figure that inspires you?
Beyonce. She represents so much for women and women of colour. She has changed the landscape of the entertainment industry and has empowered women, and continues to do so.

Define a great leader- What are three traits you think great leaders possess?
Empathy, persistence, and charisma
What advice did you receive early in your career that has stayed with you?
To focus on yourself, you are your own competition.

Based on your own experience, what advice would you give to women considering pursuing a career in broadcasting?
Keep focused, work hard, and do not give up on your dreams, no matter what.
What main change would you like to see for young girls in the next generation?
I would like to see women being emancipated with improved access to basic resources. Educating and financially advancing women will change the world.
