Since the pandemic hit us, there have been many things that we all have had to adjust to. Sadly, many people never got to experience their firsts in the normal way. There were several restrictions and health provisions that have taken precedence over experience. 

So when we speak about tertiary education, many students have missed out on the iconic experience of varsity life. As we say this, the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Scheme have opened up opportunities to study in Mauritius.

"The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has called on South Africans who wish to apply for the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Scheme to do so before the closing date of 31 January 2022." (Business Tech)

The call for applications is only for the April 2022 intake, the October 2022 intake will be published later on in the year. It was noted that if the applications were not fully compliant with all supporting documents, as well as being handed in by the end of this month, they will not be considered.

Students who are already studying in Mauritius are not eligible for this scholarship programme. 

"The scholarship will offer tuition fees and course-related costs of up to MUR 100 000 and monthly living allowance to the value of MUR 12 500 (approximately R4 500). Students will also be entitled to free basic health care in public hospitals in Mauritius and return airfare to and from Mauritius by the most economical route." Sounds pretty cool, however it is important to note that you would have to cover additional costs, for example, costs for books, tuition not covered, field research work, and re-sit examinations.
