After his Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award win, he shared some much-needed words with the world when he said that "in this time, with all of the internet, and social media and algorithms and everything that wants us to think a certain way, the 24-hour news cycle, it is my hope that all of us would just teach our kids, and not only to remember, to refuse hate. Don't hate anybody..."
His hope for all of us is to refuse hate. He even went on to dedicate the award to everyone who is willing to stand in the middle with him, "as that's where healing happens, that's where conversation happens, that's where change happens".
