They say you only truly know how far you have come when you take a moment to look back...

Whether or not that is true, we are not certain.

But what we do know is that these past few weeks have been a true indicator to the strength and unity of community spirit that KZN is known for.

After everyone came together last Friday to raise funds and donations towards the #KZNFloodRelief, it turns out that every little bit counts...

The day concluded with a more than generous R6.7-million in donations!

On that note, we found an article in The Post newspaper that shared some special memories of an iconic Durban spot.

Many people will remember The Palladium nightclub, which was situated at Isipingo beach.

As we move into yet another rebuild of our communities, this time it's more about starting from the bottom, rather than cleaning up.

We take a look at the remains of that once iconic building. A place that housed such happy memories for many people. It was also a symbol of innovation and pride amidst the community.

It ran as a nightclub, an esteemed one at that. But on a Sunday, it was a family affair as it turned into a supper club.

As we start a new chapter, we look at the skeletal structure and what it has become. It is now surrounded by rubbish and was even almost burnt down last year.

Where once there were queues of cars waiting to enter, now it forms the epicentre for an informal settlement.

So, in fact, seeing such a landmark to Durbanites in this condition, does show us how far we have come, whether we are better off or not, still remains unknown.
