The stakes couldn’t be higher, as the two giants of South African football lock horns in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals.
Redemption is the goal for Amakhosi, who haven’t beaten Orlando Pirates since 2014. However, their statistics against the Buccaneers in the Telkom Knockout suggests that they’ve got their number as Amakhosi have never lost to Pirates in the competition’s history.
Striker Ryan Moon, who was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, as well as midfielder Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein, chatted to Gareth ‘G-Dog’ Jenkinson about the upcoming derby and their own ambitions at the club.
Both teams have had to continue with their training and build-up to the clash without their international players due to last week’s international window. Nevertheless, both sides will be hoping their returning stars can light up the Derby this weekend.
Two players that have been fighting for opportunities at Amakhosi paid a visit to East Coast Drive with Bongani and Mags in the build-up to the Durban Edition of the Soweto Derby.
Chiefs meet Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday - kickoff is at 15h00.
