Union warns of looming police wage strike
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
Police officers could soon be downing tools if the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union meeting next week decides on strike action.
Civil servants are unhappy with a 3% pay hike offer from government.
Some took part in nationwide marches on Tuesday after trade union federation leaders called for a Day of Action.
Workers are insisting on a 10% increase.

Popcru says if the government was one that listened, police wouldn't need to threaten to leave their posts.
Provincial secretary Nthabeleng Molefe says Popcru’s Central Executive Committee will meet from Sunday to discuss organisational issues.
"The issue of the police downing tools is the issue that is going to be discussed and if Popcru decides that we are going to be doing tools, we will down tools as long as government is going to go to the table and we finalise the issue at hand."
