uMsunduzi warns govt departments in bill arrears

uMsunduzi Municipality
has warned government departments they have five days to settle their municipal
bills or face having their services disconnected.

The city says it's owed more than R213 million for utilities.
On Thursday, the municipality carried out a debt recovery operation targeting government departments with outstanding accounts.

Final notices were issued to Greys Hospital, Public Works, SASSA, the Department of Correctional Services and several public schools.
It says the Public Works Department has promised to settle this financial year's property rates by the end of May. Last year, several schools had their water cut over unpaid accounts.
Meanwhile Msunduzi officials say businesses and residential customers will be targeted in the next stage of their debt recovery plan.
