Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says schools will remain open despite the rise in Covid-19 infections across the country.
Addressing the media yesterday Motshekga says coronavirus cases will be dealt with on a province-by-province and school-by-school basis.
Primary school pupils will return to classrooms on a full-time basis on the 26th of July, when the third term gets under way.
The Minister says preparations for the return of primary school learners will go ahead as planned.
"As I have said earlier doing business under COVID-19 means one also needs to strike a balance between saving lives and livelihood", she said.
"In the case of the education sector it means we need to do all we can to prevent academic disaster and at all times follow the advice of public health who are supporting us in the management of COVID-19", Motshekga said.
