Mchunu denies links to Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala

Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu has responded to damning allegations made against him by KZN police chief Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Mchunu says he's not associated with and hasn't received anything from a businessman who is also implicated in alleged SAPS corruption.
The provincial commissioner's explosive claims of criminal and political interference have triggered a groundswell of reaction.
He claimed the interference led to the disbandment of the KZN Political Killings Task Team.
Mkhwanazi implicated controversial businessman, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala and a man who claimed to be Mchunu's close associate, Brown Mogotsi.
Last year, Matlala was awarded a R360 million tender with the police, which was later cancelled after he was arrested on attempted murder charges.
In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Mchunu said that while he respects the president's call for calm, he feels it is important to clarify his position.
"The minister has never met Mr Matlala, has never spoken to him, nor has the minister ever requested or received anything from him," says his spokesperson, Kamogelo Mogotsi.
"The minister did, however, initiate a review of the SAPS tender awarded to him when suspicions of possible wrongdoing surfaced. It was the same tender which has since been terminated.
"Furthermore, whilst the minister knows and has met Mr Brown Mogotsi, he is just a comrade and not an associate of the minister. The minister has never requested or received anything from him."
