Hilton road works halted over salary payment delays

Msunduzi Municipality says a project to fix a section of a road near Hilton is on hold as sub-contractors haven’t been paid.

The municipality's Thobeka Mafumadi says the issue was the contractor that was on site was not paid by a previous contractor that was sub-contracting the project.
"The project has to be halted in order for the municipality to intervene. The project will be resuming soon but we are working hand in hand with the community."
Residents from Mbutshana in Sweetwaters took to the streets yesterday demanding answers from the City.

They want to know why the R1.7 million construction on the D2069 has been stalled.
Ward 2 councillor Sbusiso Mtshali says it should have been completed in July 2019, “It was supposed to take about 10 months. The main issue was the lack of progress on the project itself. The project dragged for quite some time now and the residents are not happy."
