Ex-Umzimkhulu official in court for Sindiso Magaqa murder

A former municipal manager at Umzimkhulu Local Municipality is due to line up in court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of slain ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa.

The 55-year-old suspect was re-arrested in Malvern on Monday.


He was first arrested in 2018, alongside the late mayor of Umzimkhulu, two ex-cops and others.


Magaqa was killed in 2017, after he allegedly spoke out against corruption in the local municipality.


Sanele Hlongwa, who's with the ANC Youth League in KZN, says they're confident the State will secure convictions against those who were involved.


" It doesn't assist to arrest a hitman alone. You have to arrest those ones that orchestrated and planned the assassination of our SG.


"It's really concerning to see young people being killed, especially for fighting for justice and clean governance.


“If police officers are this active in arresting those ones that are participating in political killings, we are very happy as the young people because it assist us to continue to be vocal whenever there is a wrongdoing without any fear."
