Durban schools reopen with police raids
Dagga and cigarettes have been confiscated during a police raid at three Durban schools.
KZN police, joined by Basic Education Department officials, descended on the schools on Tuesday morning, as thousands of pupils across the country return for the start of the third term.
They made unannounced visits to Inanda's Ikusasalethu Secondary School, Newtown Combined School and Inanda Comprehensive School.
Using K9 sniffer dogs, they searched classrooms and learners.

In a statement, police say the subsequent searches led to the recovery of dagga and cigarettes as well as lighters and matches.
The raid falls under the Safer Schools Protocol, a joint initiative to create safer learning environments in schools.
Police say they also provided safety information to learners.
