Cattle thrown out of moving taxi in high speed police chase

A case of
animal cruelty is being investigated after stolen cattle were thrown out of a
moving taxi - during a police chase in Pietermaritzburg yesterday.

Police from the Pietermaritzburg K9 unit who received information about four stolen cows - were in hot pursuit of the vehicle – when in an attempt to evade the police, suspects threw three cows out of the vehicle.
During the pursuit, the taxi crashed near farm hostels, where the suspects fled on foot.

Investigations on the scene revealed the livestock was stolen in the Rietvlei area.
The police's Nqobile Gwala says the impounded taxi had false registration plates which will be investigated further.
The police are still searching for the suspects.
In another unrelated incident, yesterday at midday, the Himeville Stock Theft Unit assisted by Pietermaritzburg Stock Theft Unit recovered 35-suspected stolen goats in the Pata area at Pietermaritzburg.
According to police the animals were impounded while the searching for the owners continues.
