Updated | By OFM
The body that was found burnt beyond recognition inside Thabo Bester's cell at the Mangaung Correctional Centre has finally been identified.
The charred body, which has been identified as that of Katlego Mpholo, was used as a decoy for the so-called Facebook rapist and murderer to escape on 3 May last year, and was found with blunt force trauma.
The body was brought inside the maximum-security prison in a private vehicle.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the body was identified following a direct match with the biological mother of the deceased.
She says the family has been notified by the investigating officer.
“The South African Police Service is pleased to bring closure to the family. No further comment will be provided.”
