'The Woman King' - Thuso Mbedu has the #1 movie in America
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
The Pietermaritzburg actress is currently on a press tour in America for her new movie, 'The Woman King'.
'The Woman King' starring Thuso Mbedu and Oscar winner Viola Davis is the number one movie in America.
But while Thuso is living her best life in America - and winning awards while she is at it - some people are more focused on her accent.
The 31-year-old recently appeared as a guest on several US talk shows to promote her new movie about female warriors.
The South African actress has appeared on talk shows such as 'The View' - which is co-hosted by Whoopi Goldberg.

While many people have flooded the Pietermaritzburg-born star's social media timelines with messages of congratulations and praise for flying SA's flag high, some are worried that she is losing her accent.
"Reduce the American accent, beautiful. Was watching your interview. Don't lose the South ah accent," the tweep wrote.
Thuso wasted no time clapping back: "Don’t talk about things you know nothing about." Some Twitter users slammed the man for focusing on her accent instead of her achievements.
"Thuso you have every right to talk the way you want to. Ungabanaki mntanasekhaya," one man wrote.
Another commented: "You want unnecessary attention. Stop it; you are too old for this. Thuso is doing well don’t drag her down to your level, and beat her with experience…"

We doubt Thuso was too bothered by the man's comments. She is too busy basking in the success of her latest film. 'The Woman King' was released on September 16.
According to Viola, the film had an amazing opening weekend in America. "Thank you ALL for making @WomanKingMovie the #1 Movie in America!!!" the actress wrote on Instagram.
The film is set to debut in South Africa on September 30. Thuso also thanked people for their support.
"Thank you everyone for your support. Your words of encouragement and affirmation have been so beautiful. Thank you for turning up in numbers at the theaters. It’s been a crazy couple of days and it has all been worth it because of you," she wrote on Instagram.

Thuso recently bagged her first-ever Byrdie magazine cover. She features in the publication's digital issue for fall.
She told the magazine what it means to her playing such a strong female character.
"In #TheWomanKing, we have dark-skinned Black women trying to fight an oppressive system that constantly undermines them. And in real life, we still have women like @violadavis who have worked so hard, so long, and who have proven themselves time and again in their careers and in their personal lives but who are still being undermined because they are dark-skinned Black women," she said.
