Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson admits she struggled a bit with her new movie about Nelson Mandela’s former wife. The film, entitled Winnie Mandela, will be released next month.

Jennifer has revealed she is nervous about the release of the film, saying playing the apartheid struggle icon is the most demanding role yet.

Speaking to ESSENCE magazine she says, “I think we’re both fighters. I see that. I thought they picked the right one to play Winnie as far as her character and strength. She never backed down. No matter what you put her through you were not going to break her and she walked through everything and still kept her faith, the hardest struggle.”

She adds, “I tried my best to do her justice and I have the upmost respect for her and her contributions to the world.”

Billed as an "Untold Love Story," the motion picture is based on Anné Mariè du Preez Bezdrob's biography Winnie Mandela: A Life. It traces Winnie and her husband  Nelson Mandela - played by Academy Award nominee Terrance Howard - from his political rise, fall and ultimate imprisonment for his opposition to apartheid to her efforts to win his freedom while carrying on his dream for peace and equality in a free South Africa.

Jennifer not only steps in front of the camera for this biopic but she’s worked behind the scenes too. Her new track Bleed For Love features on the movie’s soundtrack.
