Will and Kate 'excited' for newly engaged Prince Harry & Meghan

Prince William and his wife Duchess Catherine are leading congratulations for Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle, who announced their engagement today.  

"We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together," Will and Kate said in a statement shortly after Kensington Palace confirmed the news. 

The palace also released a statement on Meghan's parents behalf.

Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland said they are "incredibly happy" for the couple.

The Queen, who had tea with Meghan during a meeting last month, gave Harry his blessing.

He popped the question in London earlier this month, according to royal officials.

Meghan and Harry have been together since July 2016, and made their first official public appearance together at the Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada, in September this year. 

The couple are set to pose for their engagement photos this afternoon, and will sit down for their first interview together later this evening.
