Trevor Noah shares sneaky Xhosa joke at the Oscars
Lost in translation! Trevor Noah fooled the Oscars audience with a fake Xhosa phrase.
Trevor Noah told an inside joke at Oscars that only South Africans would understand.
"The Daily Show" host served as a presenter at Sunday night's ceremony and introduced "Black Panther" as one of the "Best Picture" nominees.
During his segment, the 35-year-old joked that he grew up in Wakanda. He also shared an interesting Xhosa phrase that doesn't really exist.
"Growing up as a young boy in Wakanda, I would see King T'Challa flying over our village, and he would remind me of a great Xhosa phrase, 'abelungu abazi ubu ndiyaxoka', which means, 'In times like these, we are stronger when we fight together than when we try to fight apart'," the South African comedian told the audience.
If you speak Xhosa you would know that what Trevor actually said was, "white people don't know I'm lying".
