Slice of Princess Diana's 40-year-old wedding cake up for auction
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
A piece of cake from Prince Charles and Princess Diana's 1981 wedding is expected to fetch R10,000 at an upcoming auction.
Some people serve their wedding cake to their guests, others freeze the top tier for their first wedding anniversary.
But we don't know anyone who has kept a piece of their wedding cake for 40 years!
Auctioneers are hoping someone will fork out £500 (R10,000) for a piece of cake that has been sitting in a tin for the past four decades.
But it's not any old cake. The cake is from Prince Charles and Princess Diana's 29 July 1981 wedding.
According to PEOPLE magazine, the fruitcake has been preserved in plastic wrap. The Queen Mother gave the piece of cake to a former Clarence House employee named Moyra Smith.
A royal memorabilia specialist says he wouldn't recommend eating the cake!

It's not the first time a piece of Charles and Diana's cake has been auctioned. In 2015, a separate slice of the cake sold for almost R17, 000.
A piece of Prince William and Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding cake also went under the hammer in 2012.
