The 'Queen of Latin Music', Shakira, has become the latest
artist to sell her music catalogue, which consists of 145 songs.
As the world battles with the effects that the coronavirus has had on many people's sources of income, more artists are coming up with ways to make ends meet. This has led to some of them selling their music rights.
The BBC reports that Shakira has become the latest artist to sell her music rights to Hipgnosis Song Fund - a company that has also bought the rights to Blondie and Neil Young's music.

It is not clear how much the music catalogue costs, but the publication reports that the company usually pays the equivalent of 15 years of royalties up front.
Hipgnosis took to Twitter to celebrate the deal, praising Shakira as one of the most serious and successful songwriters of the last 25 years.
“Welcome to the Hipgnosis family @shakira. What no one should ever take for granted is that Shakira is one of the most serious and successful songwriters of the last 25 years, having written or co-written virtually every song she has ever recorded,” wrote on Twitter.
