“However I’m meant to have them, I will," says Selena.
'Ice Cream' hitmaker Selena Gomez has revealed that she may never be able to carry her own children. The 30-year-old says two medications she takes for her bipolar condition could affect her chances of conceiving.
"That’s a very big, big, present thing in my life," she told Rolling Stone magazine.
But Selena won't let that get in the way of her becoming a mother one day. "I’m meant to have them, I will," she said.
The actress says she broke down into tears after visiting a friend who was trying to start a family of her own.
According to MayoClinic, "A number of medications for bipolar disorder can be associated with birth defects and can pass through breast milk to your baby. Certain medications, such as valproic acid and divalproex sodium, should not be used during pregnancy. Also, birth control medications may lose effectiveness when taken along with certain bipolar disorder medications."
Selena says her bipolar condition keeps her humble.
"I think there’s something over me that is maybe my bipolar that kind of just keeps me humble — in a dark way,” the Rare Beauty founder added.
Other stars with bipolar include Kanye West, Demi Lovato, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Selena's Rolling Stone cover dropped one day before her new documentary, 'My Mind & Me'. She opens up more about her bipolar diagnosis and other health struggles in the documentary, which debuts on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 4.
The 'Only Murders In The Building' star also discusses her mental health struggles in the doccie. She took to Instagram to thank Rolling Stone writer, Alex Morris, for helping her share her story.
"Sharing my story has not been easy. Thank you @jalexmorris for having such an open conversation with me about not just my story but yours too. It’s a reminder of exactly why I chose to share 'My Mind & Me."

Selena debuted a new song in the trailer for her documentary and the singer tells Rolling Stone that she has written 24 songs that could possibly feature on her next album.
"It’ll just be fun stories of me living my life and going on dates and having conversations with myself. I feel like it’s going be an album that’s like, ‘Oh, she’s not in that place anymore; she’s actually just living life.’"
