Princess Charlene bringing Water Bike Challenge to South Africa
The event will help raise awareness about water safety.
Princess Charlene of Monaco will return to South Africa in September for a special event hosted by her foundation.
The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation (PCMFSA) is counting down the days to the Water Bike Challenge, which will be held in Sun City on September 16. It will be the first time the challenge is held in Africa.
"Under the leadership of HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco, the Foundation is dedicated to transforming lives through swimming and water safety education. This momentous occasion marks the debut of the renowned Water Bike Challenge in South Africa, previously held with great success in Monaco," PCMFSA said in a statement.
Princess Charlene will be attending the event with her husband Prince Albert.
The Water Bike Challenge will see twelve teams facing off in a relay race for a good cause. The charity event will support some of the foundation's water safety projects.
Chantell Wittstock, CEO of PCMFSA, says they are "thrilled to bring the Water Bike Challenge to South Africa and create an exciting platform for raising awareness about water safety".

Princess Charlene, who was born in Zimbabwe, is passionate about water safety. The 45-year-old was a professional swimmer before retiring in 2007.
She represented South Africa at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Her foundation also has a 'Learn To Swim' programme that hosts swimming courses for disadvantaged youth to help prevent drowning.
Charlene has visited SA on many occasions since becoming a princess. She was one of the high-profile guests at King Goodwill Zwelithini's funeral in KwaZulu-Natal in 2021.

Her children, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, have also been to the country. They visited KZN in August 2021 to visit Charlene. She was recovering from a health scare that prevented her from flying out of South Africa.
A short trip to SA for an anti-poaching mission in May 2021 turned into a months-long stay after Charlene suffered complications from an ear, nose, and throat surgery she underwent in Europe.
She had to undergo further treatment and had to stay put until she was strong enough to fly back to Monaco. She eventually returned in November 2021.
