Jessie J "never gave up hope" on having a baby
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
The singer says she was told she couldn't have children and needed a hysterectomy, but she never lost hope.
English singer Jessie J is basking in the joy of being a first-time mother. The 35-year-old gave birth to her rainbow baby, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, in May and has been celebrating ever since.
The past few years have been difficult for the 'Flashlight' singer. She suffered a miscarriage in 2021, and the loss left her with an overwhelming sadness.
The arrival of Sky has inspired her to open up more about her difficult journey to motherhood.
"I wrote this song ('Four Letter Word') years after I was told I couldn’t have children in 2014. In 2015 I was told I needed a hysterectomy to cure the pain I felt most days. I said no thank you and instead changed my diet and took a spiritual journey to healing," she said.

'Four Letter Word' is a song Jessie, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, wrote in 2018. It details her desire to become a mother.
The lyrics to 'Four Letter Word' read:
B-A-B-Y
This just changed my life
Can't believe I, can't believe I, can't believe I don't have time
B-A-B-Y
I talk to you at night
Won't believe I, won't believe I, won't believe I won't have time

Jessie J says the song "hits different" now that she has become a mom.
"In 2021 I lost a baby, but I never gave up hope. Ever. Not once. Hope that whatever way I became a mother would always come to me in the right time. Naturally or not. I wanted to have a baby… In September 2022 in an airport in Rio Brazil I found out I was pregnant. I fell pregnant in the Sky. 🪄This song hits so different now…" she added.
All of Jessie's posts since May have been about her baby or baby daddy Chanan Safir Colman, and she has no plans to stop the baby spam.
"I have never felt more in my body and purpose as I do right now. Who I am as an artist is who I am in my life. Being a Mum is now a huge part of my identity and existence and I will celebrate it at every chance I get."

Jessie also paid a special tribute to her mother, Rose Cornish, in a separate post she shared this week.
"This woman right here. I wouldn’t be standing without you Mum. As soon as I told you I was pregnant there hasn’t been a day you haven’t messaged me or been there when I’ve needed you," she wrote.
The 'Price Tag' hitmaker also praised her mother for always showing up for her.
"Doing night feeds, waking me up to pump, cooking me gluten free snacks, ironing, holding me when I’m sobbing, making Sky settle when I need a second. Sterilising bottles, emptying the dish washer, walking to the shops to get fruit or chocolate because I mentioned I fancied a Mars bar.
"Your energy as a mother to us three girls and to your grandchildren is magical," Jessie J said.
