Drake is one of the biggest rappers in the world. So, imagine people's surprise when his credit card got declined for the world to see.

The incident occurred when Drake tried to gift a fan $499 (R9,600) during a live stream.

"Embarrassing," the Canadian star simply said when he found out the card did not go through.

Drake was promoting his collaboration with an online betting platform called Stake at the time. But all his fans could talk about was his card being declined.

"If his card can't get declined, then I shouldn't have a bank account because I'm broke as hell," one Twitter user wrote

Another user joked: "My bank will do this s**t over a $5 purchase at 7-11."

Jokes aside, many social media users pointed out that the 'Fall Back' hitmaker's card probably got declined for security reasons, not because he is broke.

One Twitter user pointed out that a similar thing happened to former basketball player Shaquille O'Neal. He was trying to make a $70,000 (R1.3-million) purchase at a Walmart store at the time.

"I put my credit card in and it got declined. So, I pulled it out and I put it back in. It said declined again. I am like, I knoq I'm not broke," he told James Corden on 'The Late Late Show' in 2018.

Shaq explained that his credit card provider called him because they thought his card had been stolen.

Drake net worth

Drake can certainly afford $499. According to Forbes, the rapper was worth $150 million (R2,8-billion)  in 2019. His wealth has reportedly grown to $250-million (R4,8-billion) since then.

The 36-year-old owns one of the most expensive homes in Canada.

His Toronto mansion, which is nicknamed 'The Embassy', is reportedly valued at more than $100-million. The home boasts a two-story closet, a 3,200-square-foot master bedroom suite, a 10-car garage and an NBA-size indoor basketball court.

The mansion is so big, a 2020 report revealed that it would cost him R65,000 a week for cleaning services
