Connie Ferguson impersonator swindles R800k from woman
"I hope that this poor woman can get her money back," Connie Ferguson said.
A Joburg woman has reportedly lost over R800,000 after being conned by Connie Ferguson impersonators.
According to the Sunday World, the woman was duped by alleged Forex Traders who claimed to be working with 'The Queen' star.
She spotted an investment opportunity advert on a Facebook page she thought belonged to Connie. She indicated that she was interested and started chatting to "Connie" - an agent for the company - about the investment via WhatsApp.
She was put in touch with people from the Forex Trading company who convinced her that she could make R10-million by investing R100,000.
The woman made the payment but soon learned that she had to fork out more money to get her investment back and all of her returns.
She reportedly took out loans and ended up giving the fraudsters more than R800k. When it finally became clear to her that she will not be getting her money back, she went the legal route and hired lawyers.
She has approached the Joburg High Court to freeze the accounts of the alleged traders and the company.

Meanwhile, Connie has distanced herself from the forex trading industry.
"I hope that this poor woman can get her money back," the 52-year-old told the publication.
Sadly, many people do not feel sorry for her.
"Only dishonest and greedy people are scammed," one Twitter user wrote.
A second person joked: "I hope that forex con artist was not Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipa."
"Not forex, please. The reserve bank warned us a lot," a third person added.
Earlier this year, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) warned the public about being cautious when investing with companies linked to Forex trading.
"Members of the public should always ensure that an entity or individual is suitably authorised by the FSCA to provide the specific financial product or service being offered."
