Mzansi Youth Choir score golden buzzer on 'America's Got Talent'
Mzansi Youth Choir's sensational performance earned them a spot in August's semi-final.
South Africa's Mzansi Youth Choir brought Simon Cowell to tears during their audition on 'America's Got Talent'.
The choir, which hails from Soweto in Johannesburg, earned the first Golden Buzzer of season 18. They bagged the Group Golden Buzzer, which includes the show's first-ever Audience Group Buzzer.
They walked off stage with a spot in the semi-final taking place in August.
All four of the judges, the host in the wings as well as the audience representative come together, put their hands on top of one another and press the Golden Buzzer simultaneously. This is the first season where the Audience Golden Buzzer was introduced, and Mzansi Youth Choir made history by receiving nothing less than all six Golden Buzzers simultaneously”.
Mzansi Youth Choir performed Jane 'Nightbirde' Marczewski's 'It's OK'. Jane is a former 'AGT' contestant who passed away in 2022 after losing her battle with cancer. She was 31. Watch her Golden Buzzer-winning audition here.
Judges Simon, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel praised Mzansi Youth Choir for their emotional tribute to the late singer.
"I will always remember Nightbirde and to see that it touched people on the other side of the globe - unbelievable. You deserve so much more than a yes, and to be here, you deserve a thank you. Thank you so much," Howie said after joining the other judges in giving the choir a standing ovation.
Simon described their tribute as breathtaking.
Host Terry Crews was also brought to tears by the performance. "What a wonderful tribute to a beautiful person," he said.

Britain's Got Talent 2023
The Mzansi Youth Choir is not the only talent from South Africa making waves abroad. Amputee dancer Musa Motha touched the hearts of viewers, judges, and audience members when he took to the stage for his audition on 'Britain's Got Talent'.
He is through to the finals after an amazing performance in the semi-finals a few days ago.
"This literally sent chills down my spine; he is amazingly talented and is an amazing representation and inspiration for disabled individuals showing their ailments don’t limit their ability to enjoy what they love," one YouTuber commented.
Simon, who is also a host on the British version of the show, gave the performance a standing ovation. Judges Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, and Bruno Tonioli also joined in.
Musa will face nine other acts in the 'Britain's Got Talent' final on Sunday, June 4.
"We made it to the finals. Thank you so much [to] everyone who voted and supported me. I promise to work harder and bring more exciting moments in the final. I LOVE YOUUUU," he wrote on Instagram.
