Kwaito legends join forces to honour Zola 7

Bonginkosi ‘Zola7’ Dlamini is receiving his flowers while he is still alive. The South African musician has announced that a 'Strictly Kwaito Legends' show will be held in his honour in a few weeks. 

The one-day gig comes weeks after a "shocking" video of the music icon went viral. Many social media users felt that Zola did not look well in the clip. 

The 'Ghetto Fabulous' hitmaker has previously opened up about his health struggles. He revealed in a 2021 interview on 'Podcast & Chill with MacG' that he suffered from epilepsy. He told MacG that he was diagnosed with the illness in 2019, and it sometimes causes him to lose weight. 

“I lost a lot of weight over the past year. I was extremely sick, I was home and I was shaking. Everybody around me was scared I was going to die. I couldn’t eat well. I was eating Mageu, porridge and fish,” he said at the time.

Many social media users were touched by the viral video and sprung into action to help the star, who is known for helping underprivileged communities.

They offered to make donations to Zola. His account details were later made public. Many celebrities also offered help, including Shauwn Mkhize, who invited Zola to her home. 

Many believed that the businesswoman donated R1-million to the 90s pop culture icon, but Zola later set the record straight. 

“Zola has not received any millions or R1m from any funder, as widely alleged... To MaMkhize, you are one of a kind and we hope you are not discouraged by incorrect reporting to assist where you can. You have given Zola love, hope and joy. That is a blessing on its own,” a statement released by his team stated. 

Zola also revealed in a video shared on social media that MaMkhize just wanted to cook for him and introduce him to her son, Andile Mpisane, who is also an artist. 

Zola hinted that she is "doing something amazing" but can't say what just yet.

Actor Israel Matseke Zulu is the latest star to pay Zola a visit. Israel, who opened up about his own health struggles last year, says they had a good time reminiscing about life. 

"I had a wonderful time with Guluva @jamazola7 , reminiscing about impilo, our careers, Yizo-Yizo, the friendship, and how God namaDlozi have been great to both of us. We are not going to die anytime soon izinja," he captioned a video of them meeting. 

Zola 7 says he is "thankful for all your love and support"

"He is humbled by all the continued contributions. He is looking forward to more big things, he is receiving the necessary support,” his team said in a statement. 

Zola is now looking forward to his 'Strictly Kwaito Legends' gig, which is taking place in Mpumalanga. 

Some of the musicians taking part include Doc Shebeleza, Professor, Mapaputsi,  Big Nuz, Spikiri, and Jakarumba.
