From a police officer to a lead vocalist in Spirit of Praise, big things are happening for Thapelo Molomo.
The gospel ensemble announced at the weekend that the 'Idols SA' season 18 winner will officially be joining the team.
Spirit of Praise made the announcement during a live recording in Pretoria on Saturday. Several other new members were also announced on the night.

Thapelo has worked with the group in the past as a backing vocalist and performed a solo for one of their songs.
"Thank you @1spiritofpraise for granting me such a beautiful opportunity [to] be part of the fam. [It's] good to be back," Thapelo wrote on Instagram.

Thapelo, who works as a warrant officer for the South African Police Service (SAPS), has achieved a lot since winning 'Idols SA', despite refusing to quit his day job.
"I will proceed with my work. I will multi-task. I have always been multi-tasking anyway, so there is nothing new really, even though the audience is now big, but I feel it will be possible because musicians mostly work during the weekends, so what will I be doing during the week? I must generate an income. I will continue with my work," he said in an interview with East Coast Radio.
Thapelo also made headlines in January 2023 when he was spotted selling eggs and atchaar from the boot of his car. He proudly advertised his business on social media.
Thapelo won a R1-million cash prize and was presented with brand new wheels after winning 'Idols SA', but concerned fans thought that he had gone broke.
He assured them that was not the case.
“I'm not broke. I'm just trying to impact people's lives. I invested the cash prize in a home for my family. I needed to get myself involved in a small project. Me selling eggs and atchaar is motivation for the youth and musicians to create employment for themselves instead of waiting for it. Creating employment for ourselves does not require you to think too big. With R500 you can buy a box of eggs, get profit and build from that,” he told TshisaLIVE.
Juggling his 9-5 job and his side hustle didn't stop Thapelo from following his dreams. He released a four-track EP called 'Uyaphila' in 2023 and has booked several gigs around SA. Thapelo is also in demand as a wedding singer.
The singing policeman always reminds his fans to remain positive and never give up no matter what challenges are thrown their way.
"I waited during my dry season and learnt to be grateful and soaked myself in God. [A] dry season [doesn't] mean you have been forsaken. It is a silent time to regain self and understand that your source is God. So when open doors flood they don't control or change the person you are," he wrote in a New Year's message he shared in December last year.
