Alanis Morissette and Foo Fighters pay tribute to Sinead O’Connor
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Fans are raving about the "ridiculously cool" tribute.
Tributes continue to roll in for music icon Sinead O’Connor following her sudden death last week. The Foo Fighters are the latest musicians to give the Irish singer a special shout-out.
The 56-year-old was found "unresponsive" at her home in London on Wednesday, July 26. Police are not treating the 'Troy' singer's death as suspicious.
Sinead was a respected artist in the music industry and many of her peers admired her. Many of them are paying tribute to the Grammy Award winner in their own special way.
Last week, Pink & Brandi Carlile covered Sinead's 90s hit ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.
The Foo Fighters have also honoured Sinead by covering one of her iconic songs.
The American rock band brought out Alanis Morissette during their set at the 2023 Fuji Rock Festival in Japan to help them sing 'Mandinka'.
“We'd like to make tonight very special for you... So, tonight we’re gonna do something that we have never done before with someone that we love very much. We want an old friend to come up and sing with us tonight for a very special reason," the band's lead singer Dave Grohl said.
Sinead released the track in 1987. The song featured on her album, 'The Lion and the Cobra'.
"Mandinkas are an African tribe. They're mentioned in a book called 'Roots' by Alex Haley, which is what the song is about. In order to understand it you must read the book," Sinead reportedly said in a 1988 interview, according to Genius.
Before singing Sinead's 'Mandinkas', Alanis shared a few words about the late star.
“[We're singing this song] for a beautiful woman with high intelligence and deep empathy - way ahead of her time - who is no longer with us. This is for her," the 49-year-old 'Ironic' singer said.

Another user commented: "Love Alanis, Foos and Sinead. I was 15 when this song and video was released. I thought she was nutso! But I’ve loved and respected her all these years even after the SNL incident. We love you RIP Sinead."
