Neil Sedaka is a man who wears many hats - a singer, songwriter, composer, pianist, and author.

He has enjoyed a successful music career for over six decades, having started as one of the first teen pop sensations of the 1950s.

The international star was born on 13 March 1939.

From the age of eight, the star fell in love with music when he listened to The Make-Believe Ballroom.

He later studied piano at Juilliard School of Music where he was voted The Best New York High School Pianist.

His hit songs include 'The Diary', 'Oh! Carol', 'Stairway to Heaven', 'Calendar Girl', 'Little Devil', 'Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen', and 'Next Door To An Angel'.

His global hit, 'Breaking Up Is Hard To Do', made music history by becoming the first song recorded in two different versions by the same artist to reach Number 1.

He also wrote songs for other artists including Elvis Presley and Tom Jones.
