After being a part of the band for over a decade, he went solo and his first album, 'Sentimental Journey', was released in 1970 under EMI.
His solo career became so successful that to date, he has released countless top ten hits. He later went on to become a producer and his first produced album , 'Y Not', was released in 2010.
His accolades include receiving the French Medal of Honor in 2013.
His music is so inspirational that in February 2014, Simon & Shuster published a children’s book based on Ringo’s lyrics, 'Octopus’s Garden'.
He has released over twenty albums and won eight Grammy Awards as a member of The Beatles and an additional Grammy for Album Of The Year.
Not only has he won a Grammy, but the Grammy Museum hosted Starr in 2010 for a conversation about his album, 'Y Not', and in 2013 for the opening of the exhibit Ringo: Peace & Love, the first such exhibit to honour a drummer.
For his birthday celebration this year, he has asked that at noon, people all over the globe together say, "Peace and Love".
He posted a video on his YouTube channel where he asked that on "the seventh of July at noon, at 12 midday I just ask you to go 'peace and love' or even think it because it goes out there."
