Celebrating the life of the late The Beatles star John Lennon

John Lennon is the name behind one of the world's most loved rock bands, The Beatles. We look back at some of the highlights of his musical career.
John Lennon would have turned 82 on Sunday, 09 October.
The star was born in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
In 1950 he formed a band called 'The Quarrymen' with Paul McCartney and George Harrison. This band later became the much-loved rock band, The Beatles.

It is the same band that saw him rise to stardom.
The band achieved many feats, including being awarded the Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal from Queen Elizabeth II in 1965.
John later left the band and started a solo career with his wife Yoko Ono in the 1960s.
The Beatles and John, as a solo artist, were big advocates for peace. They released songs such as ' Revolution', 'Give Peace a Chance' while John released 'Bed in Peace' with his wife.
The star tragically died on December 8 in 1980 after being shot . According to media reports, the talented singer was shot by Mark David Chapman, a one-time Beatles fan. IMDB reports that Mark shot John due to being "angry and jealous over John's ongoing career".
