KZN Businesses: Still Standing, Still Showing Up
Updated | By KZN Future 50
In the latest KZN Future 50 feature on East
Coast Radio, powered by FNB Business, the focus turned to something many local
business owners are quietly facing — burnout.

Business strategist Pavlo Phitidis spoke candidly about what he’s seeing across the country: entrepreneurs who haven’t given up, but who are simply exhausted. Years of pushing through COVID, load-shedding, water cuts, red tape, and rising costs have taken their toll. And while the challenges keep coming, many business owners are still showing up, keeping the doors open, and keeping people employed.
This episode wasn’t just about the pressure, it was also about possibility. With over a million businesses supported by FNB Business, there’s real power in reminding local entrepreneurs: you’re not alone, and you’re not done.
Pavlo encouraged business owners to pause and reconnect with why they started in the first place. It’s about more than profits; it’s about purpose. And sometimes, getting back to that purpose means doing less, but doing it better. Simplifying. Focusing. Saying no to the noise and yes to what really matters.
One thing’s clear: we can’t keep doing business the same way we did before 2019. The world has changed and our strategies need to change with it. That means tightening up, delivering real value, and surrounding yourself with the right people.
