In case you missed the news, Facebook got into a bit of hot water after it was revealed that UK-based data firm, Cambridge Analytica, got their hands on millions of Facebook users' personal information to build software to influence the 2016 US election bid.

Al Jazeera reported that Cambridge Analytica's co-founder and whistle-blower, Christopher Wylie, openly said that they used the Facebook data collected to build models and influence users decisions.

Just this past Tuesday, East Coast Breakfast's Social Media law Verlie Oosthuizen expert spoke about the hashtag #DeleteFacebook that trended on social media.

"The fact that Facebook has been selling personal data to companies in order to sell things for years and years seems to have been forgotten," she said.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologised publicly for the breach of data by placing ads in various newspapers in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

However, has the data breach affected the way you use the platform knowing what you know now?

Personally, for me, I have not stopped using the app, but I have become more wary about the apps that I have given permission to that have access to my data.

If you want to check the apps that have permission to access your data, here's what you need to do:

  • Click 'Settings' at the top right drop down arrow
  • Then on the left hand side of the window, click 'Apps'
  • If you want to remove apps that have access to your data, just click the 'remove' button that is feature alongside the app icon

How about you - will you still carry on using Facebook regardless of this data breach or have you now become turned-off by the platform?
