Scientists reveal the best way to thaw frozen meat

Here’s a dose of truth stranger than
fiction, scores of meat lovers around the world have being thawing their frozen
meat incorrectly for decades.
It seems pretty simple doesn’t it? Just take your meat out the freezer and pop it in the fridge overnight or all day while you are at work.
Some people even use the microwave to thaw their meat in a jiffy.
European food scientists have revealed that the best way to defrost your meat.
So what is the quickest way to thaw your meat? Put it in a freezer bag, and place it in a bowl of cold water, according to SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden scientist Susanne Ekstedt.
The cold water not only conducts heat better than air, Ekstedt told Science Nordic, it will also help prevent bacteria from growing.
Ekstedt says it is not only the fastest, but also the safest way to defrost your food: “This is something food scientists have known to be true for a long time now. But this knowledge is mostly confined to the food industry. Most people don’t seem to be aware of this.”

Food scientists at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences agreed, and also advised against thawing your meat in the microwave.
Microbiologist Per Einar Granum told Science Nordic microwaving meat will make it too hard, and should only be done if you plan on using it to make stew for supper.
