You might already know this, but I am of Scottish descent, and on Thursday night was my first Burns Night. The night is set aside to celebrate the life and poetry of Robert Burns, who was an author of many classic Scottish poems. He was also the man responsible for 'Auld Lang Syne'.

It was quite the Scots gathering, with the clans who read and celebrate Scottish poet Robert Burns’ Ode To The Haggis in attendance.

The Royal Natal Yacht Club hosted the evening and there I was surrounded by my kilt-donning clan, toasting Haggis, which is a Scottish savoury pudding which has sheep's pluck, onion, spices, and stock, all encased in the stomach of a sheep.

It was a night where I got in touch with my Scottish side. However, I had to put my plant-based diet on the backburner for the evening. I justified this to myself by saying; 'Do it for William Wallace!'.

What an experience!
