Miley Cyrus: 'I feel like I have respect'

Miley Cyrus has opened up about her transformation as an artist.

Miley Cyrus has come a long way since her Hannah Montana days.

She went from wig-wearing Hannah to wearing nipple pasties in the blink of an eye, and raised quite a few eyebrows along the way.

But her hit new single, 'Malibu', shows a fresh-faced Miley Cyrus, who seemingly has put her twerking days behind her.

The 24-year-old visited ITV's 'Lorraine' show to talk about her music transformation. She says she finally feels like she has the respect she has wanted.

"I feel like I proved what I wanted to do. I feel like I have respect and I feel like my charity Happy Hippie has given me that and I feel like I have the respect as an artist that I want, so it's less that I have to prove myself, and that gives me a lot of contentment," she said.

Miley also touched on the meaning behind her bedazzled jeans "rant" during one of her recent performances.

"There's kind of is such a difference of where I have been over the last 12 years... and where I am at right now. I feel like where I am at right is kind of all those different versions of myself combined into who I am at this moment... I am trying to find right now that line of how do I let people in and let them know that this is the true, most grounded version of myself, but also be able to get to have fun with what you wear, and what you do but they not being a distraction from the music of the bedazzled jeans. Sometimes they distract from the music."

Bedazzled jeans or nowt, Miley Cyrus' new music continues to make waves on the Coca-Cola Top 40 chart.

'Malibu' is currently at number 15 on the chart.
