Imagine Dragons release short film for 'Next to Me'

Imagine Dragons's new music video is an 11-minute short film with many twists and turns.

Imagine Dragons lead singer Dan Reynolds shows off his acting skills in the band's video for 'Next to Me'.

The 11-minute long offering, which is directed by Mark Pellington, is more of a music film than a music video.

Dan plays the main character - a man named Reynold, who ends up on death row.  His real-life wife, Aja Volkman, plays his love interest.

Guitarist Wayne Sermon and drummer Daniel Platzman also have special roles in the video. Wayne plays the victim, while Daniel plays the violin for the short film's soundtrack.

'Next to Me' is the fourth single off the American rock band's third album, 'Revolve'.

Dan told Billboard they wanted to do something different for the track's video.

"We put the call out to see what people came back to us with to a bunch of directors, and we like Mark -- he was just the most impassioned director we've ever had reach out about a music video in the history of this band. He said, 'You have no options. I must do this video.' And when he heard the song [he said] it had a lot of personal value for him too," he told the publication.

The band's hit single, 'Whatever It Takes', is currently at number 13 on the Coca-Cola Top 40
